# Google Workspace Gmail

> Learn what permissions Scribe requests when connecting to Google Workspace Gmail, including the OAuth scopes used to install and uninstall email signatures.

When you connect Scribe to Google Workspace Gmail, we use a Google Workspace Marketplace app to install and uninstall email signatures for your team. This page explains exactly which permissions we request.

## OAuth Scopes

The Scribe Google Workspace Marketplace app requests the following scopes:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Install and uninstall signatures for primary emails">
    `gmail.settings.basic`

    This scope allows Scribe to set and remove email signatures on your teammates' primary email addresses.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Install and uninstall signatures for alias emails">
    `gmail.settings.sharing`

    This scope allows Scribe to set and remove email signatures on alias email addresses associated with your teammates' accounts.
  </Step>
</Steps>

You can find detailed information about what each scope provides access to on the [Gmail API authorization scopes page](https://developers.google.com/gmail/api/auth/scopes).

<Info>
  With these scopes, Scribe **cannot read your emails**. We only use them to manage email signatures. Scribe is [SOC 2 Type II compliant](/en/what-scribe-does-concerning-security).
</Info>
